Dear Study Abroad advisors,
This is an FYI only. This message was sent yesterday afternoon to
all accepted applicants to the SBC JYF study
abroad program in Paris. ( Campus France rules apply to anyone going to
France on a study abroad program)
I would appreciate your encouraging your students participating in JYF
this spring to follow the instructions
below and not to wait until the Thanksgiving holidays to begin the VISA
process. There is very little time
between now and January 11 (group departure date) to obtain a Visa.
This added step with Campus France USA
has created problems since they are understaffed in DC.
Thank you for your help.
Best regards,
Margaret Scouten
Director, JYF
Dear Accepted applicants,
Congratulations! Many of you have already received your letter of
acceptance. Some letters are still in the mail. (If you have received
this email, you have been accepted) We have just created a list serv in
order to
inform you immediately about important issues. The most important item
is the VISA APPLICATION.
A new organization was created last spring called Campus France USA.
You must go to the Campus
France USA web site and register on line immediately.
The web site is: usa.campusfrance.org
You will not be allowed to go the French consulate and apply for a visa
until you have registered with Campus France. I am enclosing
information below which is on their web site. YOU MUST COMPLETE A 5
PAGE REGISTRATION FORM ON LINE. Once you have done so, you will receive
an email from Campus France confirming that you have created an
account. They will send you an ID number. Please forward this email to
me at <jyf at sbc.edu>
Once you have an ID number, you must send a copy of our JYF letter of
acceptance AND a $60 check to
Campus France. YOU MUST BEGIN THIS PROCESS NOW. Do not wait until
Thanksgiving Break.
The process is very slow at Campus France since they are understaffed -
only 3 people.
It is best to register now before everyone going to France begins to
register at the end of the month and in November. You must also apply
on line for an appointment at several Consulates. Consulates are often
closed during the holidays. However, you may not apply for the visa at
the Consulate until you then receive our JYF documents (as explained in
the JYF HANDBOOK). We cannot send you the documents until you send back
the TENTATIVE PROGRAM OF STUDY. Please fax that back ASAP to (434)
381-6283 even if your Advisor has not yet signed the courses. I must
place you in a French university and send you the letter
stating in which French university you will be studying (Paris 3, 4 7).
Our group flight is Friday, January 11, 2008. So you see that time if of
the essence.
If you have any questions and or concerns, please email me at <jyf at sbc.edu>
However, first read the instructions below from Campus France USA. Try to
register before you email questions. Thank you and good luck.
Best regards,
Margaret Scouten
Director

2. After you have completed the application, you need to send the
following to the CampusFrance Office in Washington D.C. :

be a copy of your acceptance letter from your study abroad/exchange

e-mail to let you know that the process is complete and that you can
apply for your visa. It may take up to two weeks after receipt of your
documents for CampusFrance to confirm your application and send you an

6. It is recommended that you start gathering the necessary documents
for your visa before your CampusFrance registration has been validated.
