Dear Colleagues,
I would like to invite study abroad advisors who are attending the NAFSA
Region VIII meeting in
Baltimore, MD for lunch on Thursday, November 8, 2007 to give you an
update about the JYF
program and to answer any questions and/or concerns. I believe that the
Plenary luncheon in on
Friday.
Please complete the form below and email back to me ASAP if you are
interested. I will choose the time - between 12:15 and 1:30 depending
on the NAFSA schedule - and name and location of the restaurant - once
I hear back from those of you who are free to meet. I will email you the
information prior to the meeting.
I recently returned from Paris helping with the Orientation for our
86 students (73 women from over 32 colleges and universities. Students
arrived in France on August 23, 2007 and spent two weeks orientation in
Tours, France. They then arrived in Paris on Friday, September 8 to
begin methodology classes and classes at SBC.
To date, we have had several excursions at Chambord and Chenonceau
castles in the Loire
Valley and two excursions (one this weekend) to Mont-St-Michel. Mme
Marie Grée, our Permanent Resident Director, has been advising students
about courses at the Sorbonne (Paris III, IV, VII or IX or Dauphine)
and Mme Karen Parnet, Associate Director, has placed students in host
families. To date, the 2007-2008 students seem to have adjusted very
well to life in France.
Our application deadline for spring 2008 is Monday, October 15,
2007. We will limit the spring applicants to about 50 students and have
already received 40 applications. Since 47 of the 86 students are fall
semester only students and will be leaving at the end of December, we
have room for another 50. However, as you know, we prefer not to enroll
more than 95 students during one semester.
I am looking forward to meeting many of you at NAFSA. If you have
any questions and/or concerns,
please do not hesitate to contact me. If you wish to reach me in
Baltimore, my cell is (434) 825-8891.
Best regards,
Margaret Scouten
Director, JYF
