Dear Colleagues,
I have been in the Paris office since January 5 to help with the
spring orientation.
Upon my arrival, Professor Elyane Dezon-Jones announced that she would
not
be able to resume her role as Resident Director as planned. She will
need
surgery in February and will not be available until mid-March or April.
Consequently, prior to Emile Langlois' departure for Florida on January
12,
he and I interviewed candidates for the RD position.
GREAT NEWS!! I hired Madame Marie GREE, former Resident Director (6
years)
of the SUNY at Stony Brook Paris program. This program folded due to
lack of
students. Her experience with Paris universities, internships and
teaching assistants in lyceés
is invaluable. She is French, married to an American and received her
Ph.D from New York
University. She officially began her duties on January 12 . It has
been a delight
working with her. I am very pleased to have her on the Paris team and
know that JYF students
will have an excellent semester under her direction.
It has been quite a year!!! However, the students have not suffered
from these changes and
all seem very content. There were 95 fall semester and year students
in September.
35 Fall semester students are now taking final exams and preparing to
return to their campuses
for spring semester. Another 19 students arrived on January 17, giving
us a spring semester
total of 79 students. We are in the midst of spring orientation and
all is going very well.
I am also very pleased to announce that Professsor Jane Cowles (
Professor of French at
Kenyon College and Member of the Advisory Board Committee for 10 years)
has accepted
the position of JYF Resident Director, 2004-2005. In additon to her
experience on the
committee, Jane is also a former SBC JYF participant from the class of
1973-74.
Please join me in congratulating Jane on her new and challenging
position with SBC JYF.
I will return to the States on February 1 and would be happy to
answer any questions
and/or concerns at that time.
Sincerely,
Margaret
