Dear parents, guardians and friends,

I mentioned at the DC departure meeting on Saturday
January 6 that I would inform you of the cheapest way
to send packages. I understand from my Paris colleagues
that if one sends a PACKGAGE via FED EX or UPS, the recipient must pay very high duty charges. It is advisable not to use those companies unless it is an emergency.
My colleagues have suggested that you send packages (return receipt requested) by the normal Air mail postal service.
This might take a little longer but in most cases, they do
not charge duty. Again, they suggest that you not put
the exact value on the label. However, if you are sending
a camera, you might need to insure it. This mailing issue
has been a major problem this year for some reason. JYF
had to reject a package with tee shirts recently since they wanted to charge us 800 Euros duty - more than the cost
of the tee-shirts. Therefore, if you send anything with UPS
or FED Ex , your son or daughter should be prepared to pay
exorbitant fees.

As most of you are aware, the spring group arrived safely; all are accounted for and in the midst of the orientation program. Today it is actually sunny (around 50 degrees). Paris is as beautiful as ever.

Happy New year. Your children are in good hands.

Sincerely,

Margaret Scouten
Director

P.S. Sorry if this is going to parents of first semester
students. We have not had time to remove your names
from the parent list serv.
Will do so this week. We sincerely hope that your sons or daughters had a wonderful study abroad experience with SBC JYF.
