DEAR FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES,
 

    For those who know and love Carol Denis, former Directrice adjointe 
of SBC JYF
for over 23 years, I am saddened to say that she is not doing well with 
her cancer.
Please find below, the email sent today from Karen Parnet, one of her 
best friends
and our current Associate Director in Paris.  I will send you an update 
when I hear
more.  Please keep Carol Denis is your thoughts and prayers.

    I think that it would  be appropriate to have a Memorial Service at 
Sweet Briar College.
We would need to contact the alums since 1973 and plan a date with her 
family.
I doubt if many will be able to travel to Paris.  This is a  very sad 
day for SBC JYF.
Carol devoted her life to Junior Year in France and is very loved by all 
her former
students.

HI Margaret,

Carol's cousin, Sylvia, who has a house on Cape Cod near Carol's, has 
been keeping me up to date on her health. Carol has been more or less 
unconscious since last Wednesday, and the hospice people say that it 
could be any day now...Nicholas and her mother are there, of course, and 
Sylvia says that Nic has been absolutely wonderful with his mother. It 
is so awful for him to lose both of his parents within two years.

When the time comes, Sylvia has written an obituary that she would like 
to send to Sweet Briar, since she thinks Carol's former students would 
want to know...I don't know if there is any way to diffuse it except in 
the Alumnae Letter.

We (her friends here) will be organizing a memorial service in Paris, 
probably towards the end of September. Nicholas will be coming to France 
with Sylvia then to take care of things here.
