[JYF-Spring-Semester] VISAS - VERY IMPORTANT

Dear JYF spring accepted applicants,
It has just come to my attention via a parent whose daughter sent in
her visa application
last week to the New York French Consulate, that they ALSO require a
financial guarantee of $600/month
from the parent. They returned her material without the visa.
There is a form on the NY French Consulate web site. On the web site
it says
"or" but apparently, they are requiring BOTH our JYF Notarized statement
of financial guarantee
(sent to you by our VA office) AND a letter from your parents. If you
live in the New York
French Consulate District, you need to do this. If you already sent in
your visa application without this form,
they might send it back to you. The French consulates are not under our
jurisdiction and can request whatever
they wish. I wish you the best. It is possible that the French
Consulate in DC also requires this form.
If you live in other areas, please consult the visa requirements as
stated on page 4-7 in the Supplement
to the Bulletin and consult the web site for French consulates at:
http://ambafrance-us.org/inthus/consulates.asp
If you live anywhere near a French Consulate, it might be best to go in
person, if they allow walk-ins.
We understand that the all Consulates, including Spain, etc. are making
it more and more difficult to
obtain visas due to fear of terrorists. Good luck.
