Speaking for myself I think the calendar is a bit
screwy this year, which is causing the possible
confusion. Seeing as the dance was Oct 15-17 last
year I would expect it to, numerically, be at the same
time this year. Insofar as next year is concerned
there should be no confusion since each weekend in
October is comprised solely of October dates. I would
also tend to think that the confusion we might be
feeling would only come around once every seven years,
when the first day of October falls on the weekend.
Indeed, a quick survey of the calendar shows that the
first day of October does not fall on a weekend day
again until 2011. Until then the third weekends will
be solidly in the upper teens, numerically speaking,
with one exception in the low 20s, in 2006 - which
will contribute to consistency.
And, Shawn's point about the Richmond dance is well
taken. I have heard Richmond dancers mention this
very fact to me and in my presence - that they are
glad it does not conflict with their dance. Too, I
have heard them discuss how they would not want their
events to conflict with our dances. I think it is
important to respect them as well.
