[Fallfest] Fall Festival Date

Festival board,

Kappy's point is well taken. As those of us at the deciding 
meeting recall, sticking to the weekend that dancers had 
become accustomed to coming to Charlottesville was *the* 
major justification for most of the festival board voting 
for the 3rd weekend in Oct. I remember Teri arguing this 
point persuasively at our meeting. Another strong point in 
favor of the 3rd weekend (Oct. 21-23) was that it would 
coincide with the regular Friday dance. ACCDSS board 
members spoke to this point, remembering burnout from the 
year we switched to the 4th weekend and had dances on four 
October weekends.

But the weekend of Oct. 14-16 doesn't take in a regular 
Friday dance night and is not (and I trust Kappy on this) 
the weekend dancers will be expecting our festival to be. 
So it fails to satisfy our two major requirements. At the 
same time, we're still conflicting with LEAF (at least two 
board members were very much in favor of moving to a 
weekend when LEAF wasn't happening.) In addition to all 
that, moving the dance to the 2nd weekend was the deciding 
factor in us not getting our first choice band (we know 
Goldcrest could have played the following weekend), though 
I don't know about the availability of our 2nd and 3rd 
choices.

So, it is outside the realm of possibility that the date 
could be changed to the one we thought we were voting for? 
My main concern, as Treasurer, is that we not compromise 
too severely our opportunities for making some money this 
year.

Let's bring a calendar to the meeting where next year's 
dates are decided. I know this is another illustration of 
the stupidity of assuming things, as I was when I assumed 
that the 3rd weekend meant the weekend starting with the 
3rd Friday.

yikes Really?
from a long time member and co chair several times  of the 
Fall Festival committee in years past I hope for the future 
you will decide to have it on the 3rd weekend in 
October....believe me, we wrestled with this decision 
several years ago..after many years of always doing it no 
matter what on the 3rd weekend we changed to the 4th and 
got lots of feedback that it wasn't a good idea to 
change..so we all agreed it would be the 3rd weekend no 
matter what as people from many places outside 
Charlottesville who have been part of the weekend as 
participants and organizers count on it......but times 
change, people change, I understand that too....hopefully 
you all can reach some consensus about this..sometimes 
though it is important to understand the history behind 
things and stick with it...

thanks for all you good work, I always love coming "home" 
for the festival and appreciate every one that works 
together to put it on.
