Fluvanna Contra Dance Update It is with guarded hope that I write to let you know that things may be shifting in favor of the dance happening after all. A group of folks have agreed to play for the September 20th dance and while I have not received a definite commitment yet, I may have a band to cover the November dance and perhaps January or a later dance as well. But, don't let that stop you from volunteering for either dance if you want to play them! The word has certainly gotten out that Fluvanna needs some talent and musicians have started to come forth to help keep this dance alive. This is very much appreciated. However, we need more! So if you know any callers, especially, they would be very much appreciated. Beginner callers are more than welcome, teams of callers are welcome - it's a great place to try out new dances or just try calling on for size. Similarly if you're a musician wanting to try out some new dance tunes, bring them down to Fluvanna! I'm including the schedule as I have it right now so you can see if you or someone you know might be able to help fill an empty slot. Also, please, if you know some of the folks that have stepped up to help, please thank them for helping to keep the dance alive. September 20 - Gaye Fifer calling to Tom and Friends (Bob Wadsworth on hammered dulcimer, Tom Groseclose on fiddle, Henry Hubbard on bass, Stuart Groseclose on guitar) October 4 - The Rivanna River Chiggers will be playing but a caller is still needed! November 1 - a caller and a band are both still needed, who can help? I have heard from a band that may be able to cover this date, but it's not confirmed. December 6 - Tom Hinds calling to Highlander String Band January 3 - a caller and a band are both still needed, who can help? I have heard from a band that may be able to cover this date, but it's not confirmed. February 7 - Denise Lair will be calling but she needs some music, any volunteers? March 7 - Gwyn Williams calling to The Toad Mamas I would like to say that April 4 and May 1 will be the last two dances but as they are into the warm months I am happy to drop them if I can fill the slots that are empty above. Lastly, if your band volunteers for a date and feels they can handle sound, please let me know. Otherwise I will need some help from folks familiar with sound. Fluvanna has equipment, just not the expertise needed to run it! Fluvanna thanks you! Kymberlee =================================================== 5.
