This is Adrienne Young (aka Bean Queen hoping to offer retribution for a paltry party schedule this 1st half of the year!) with an addendum to Sara's party/Clifftop alternative. This weekend is the debut of Backyard Revolution at the Albemarle County Fair which, of course, is just a hop skip and a doseedo from lovely Batesville (and ? la Belle Etoile - the Clifftop 09 alternative) and I would like to invite you all to, in addition to the party, check it out AND...come play music and dance, if you like! We have a 'light' music schedule due to the fact that this is the first festival I've produced and is focused on an interactive educational celebration of Pioneer/colonial era living skills and so most of my energy went into that after many, many efforts to recruit participant musicians went down in flames due to Clifftop being the same weekend. (It is an unfortunate overlap, that one.) Subsequently, a tremendous soundsystem and nice music tent were donated just last week and so, now as the gates are readying to open I am asking that if there are any of you all that want to come and play and share your lively melodies with fair goers and the over 50 volunteers in the Backyard Revolution Family, while winding it all together with a visit to lovely Sara's, then please let me know and I will get you passes! We would especially love to have a caller come lead a jig or two! We DO have a dance floor! Interested folks please contact me at Adrienne@addiebelle.com Event info here at Backyardrevolution.com Kindest regards and more soon be it this weekend or another. Love, Bean Queen Ps. We are planning an enormous party (as in paaaaaarrrrttteeeeee)which will hopefully count as 3 sometime in September in Nelson County. More details soon! From pjoneil1 at mgwnet.com Fri Jul 31 14:01:35 2009 From: pjoneil1 at mgwnet.com (Pat & John O'Neil) Date: Fri Jul 31 13:02:04 2009 Subject: Sad News about Mike Seeger Message-ID: <005201ca1208$f48cb1a0$6401a8c0@john> The following message was sent to me for distribution. At this time, I have no further information or more direct contact information. John O'Neil Our friend Neal Walters sent this to a couple of lists early this morning: We have found Mike to be a very gracious person as he's interacted with John on "autoharp stuff". He was to have been on the staff at Swannanoa last week, but for his illness. Mary Katherine Aldin, who has been Mike Seeger's booking agent for years, sent the following note to several people last night. Mark Moss of Sing Out and Ken Irwin of Rounder Records forwarded it on to several mailing lists. Many of you know Mike personally. His contribution to traditional music cannot begin to be overstated. He has been an inspiration to all of us over the years through his own playing, his work with the New Lost City Ramblers, and his field work with the likes of Kilby Snow and Pop Stoneman and other great names in country music history. Here's last night's original note. Many of you NROT-ers know the background of his illness, and lots of you probably know how to contact him in more personal ways, but here's the "public" way: Many folks in the bluegrass world know, or know of, Mike Seeger. But you may not know that Mike has been undergoing treatment for leukemia for several years; just recently he was diagnosed with a new and very aggressive form of cancer, called multiple myeloma. In the same forthright way that he has lived his life, he has now made the decision to discontinue treatment and enter hospice care. His wife Alexia says that he would enjoy hearing from friends via cards and emails which can be sent care of his booking agency: Folklore Productions 1671 Appian Way Santa Monica, CA 90401 mkaldin@folkloreproductions.com and we will see that he gets them.
