Dayton Contra Dance

Dayton Learning Center on Mill Street

Historic Downtown Dayton, VA

The beginner workshop starts at 7:15
Bill Wellington, our caller will show you all you need to know (the basic
moves) for contra dancing.

The dance starts at 8 :00
THE HIGHLANDER STRING BAND will be providing us great tunes.

We will also be having a Bake Sale !!!
all proceeds will go towards purchasing a sound system.

This dance will have a special feel to it as Michelle is decorating!  She
has also planned the bake sale so please bring some extra dollars to buy
cupcakes to eat on the spot or something to take home like a pie or cake!

There will also be a few items out for a silent auction to see how this goes
with our group.  If it is well received and folks bid on things, we may
continue doing this until the sound system is paid for.  Until we actually
buy a system, Steve Parks will be running the sound system he has, and we
are totally and completely grateful for that!  The Dayton Dance will go on!
I am very happy to say that the group of new organizers is starting to step
up and take on more of the running of this dance!!!  Michelle Perry and
Kayla Miller are taking over the promotion of this dance and that is a good
thing!  Emails from this address will not all be from me!

This dance is evolving slowly from a musician organized dance for the
community to a dancer organized dance that may have a completely different
feel as time goes on.  I'd be surprised if it doesn't take on more of a
Greenwood flavor as the new wave of young dancers take on more of the
planning.  This dance is alive and organic, taking on the energy of the
people involved in it's growth and direction.  I am feeling particularly
hopeful at last!  Dancers taking over the operation of THEIR dance!  It's a
very good thing!
