4. Saturday, June 14 - Last Contra of Season in Floyd
The Saturday, June 14th contra dance at the Sun Music Hall will be the last
of the season
until September. All ages are welcome. Musical talent for the dance
includes the electric,
acoustic musical duo of Shawn Brenneman on piano, and Jonathan Thielen on
fiddle,
and caller George Segebade from Greensboro
The event is one of a series in Blue Ridge Country Dancers
monthly, second Saturday, Floyd contra dances.
Expect an up-tempo mix of contra dance root music, French Canadian reels,
old-time,Irish, and swing. Their repertoire is great for listening as well
as for dancing. It's fun too, as Shawn and Jonathan, long-time dancers
themselves, often infuse their solid dance beat with playful medleys.
George Segebade has been calling dance prompts for over fifteen years, and
is an absolute favorite with the dancers.
The dance starts at 8 PM with newcomer instruction at 7:30. Come as you are,
wear soft flexible shoes for dancing, and the caller will teach each dance.
Winter Sun, 302 South Locust St., downtown Floyd. Come to dance or come to
listen - no partner needed - singles welcome. Admission is $7.00. See us
on the Crooked Road (at Virginia.org) or on our website:
www.floydcontradance.org.
