8. Augusta Dance Week News
Good news for dancers -- Dance Week at Augusta has been moved back to Week
5, the same week as Old Time Week and Vocal Week! As many of you know, Dance
Week was moved to Week 4 in 2007. That proved to be a mistake, since many
people enjoyed the strong ties among Dance, Old Time and Vocal weeks and the
opportunity to take classes in any of the three. A petition to move it back
was started in 2006, when the switch to Week 4 was announced, and it
garnered many signatures.

Augusta has recognized the wide support for having the three theme weeks
together during Week 5, and has responded by moving Dance Week back to where
it belongs. Coordinator Cis Hinkle has lined up a great staff for next
summer - Carol Ormand will share the calling with Cis, with music provide by
bands Notorious and Charlottesville-based Avant Gardener. A variety of
workshops (including a hip-hop class!) will be run by staff members Matthew
Duveneck, Matt Olwell, Eileen Carson, Emily Oleson, and Ann Kilkelly.

Kathleen Lavengood, who joined Augusta as Director in 2007, has resigned.
Gerry Milnes, Augusta's folklorist and Old-Time Week coordinator has been
named Interim Director. Long-time Augusta volunteer and supporter Joyce
Rossbach will join the Augusta staff in February and will eventually take
over as Director. That's more good news for dancers - Joyce is a contra
dancer and dedicated caller!

Keep checking the Augusta website (www.augustaheritage.com) for updates and
registration info. See you on the dance floor!
