We are having a special "Welcome" and "Celebration of Charlottesville
Dance Month" party on Wednesday, April 9.
The event is designed to welcome new members.
The evening will be filled with teaching, festive spirits, good
companionship,
and wonderful and lively music/dance, People of all ages attend the group's
regular meetings.

Friday, April 11 - English Country Dance in Ivy

The next Charlottesville English dance at St. Pauls, Ivy is Friday, April
11, at 8 o'clock.
Introductory instruction at 7:30. No partner needed.
Admission $5 for adults, $3 for ages 12-17, no charge under 12.

Musicians: Beverly Seng, fiddle, and Howard Markham, piano.

This will be a special occasion because John and Beverly will be bringing

6. Saturday, April 12 - Contra in Floyd

The monthly Second Saturday Floyd Contra Dance presents
The Contrarians and caller, Keith Cornet Eustis on Saturday, April 12th.
The Contrarians deliver dazzling melody, great original tunes, and a solidly
imaginative approach to rhythm. This Charleston, WV band has consistently
"wowed the crowd" at local dances and dance weekends throughout
Ohio-Kentucky-West Virginia and beyond.  They'll be in Floyd, Sat. April 12,
for the regular second Saturday contra dance at Winter Sun Music Hall.
The caller is Keith Cornett Eustis from Kentucky.
Some contra dancers knew them as the Trusty House Band, a name given them
by the local dance community when they would not name themselves,
but in 2001 they chose a name that reflected their undivided attention to
uncompromisingly great music: the Contrarians.  They were a hit at
Pigtown Fling (Cincinnati), at the Dandelion Romp (Oberlin),
and trips to Glen Echo Park, MD.  With rhythmic variety and unique
improvisations,
this band's wild and wonderful, West Virginia musical repertoire is a dancer
's
dream come true.
The Contrarians are comfortable in a variety of styles and traditions:
Celtic,
New England, swing, and of course, old-time (Appalachian).
Playing on Saturday are: Will Carter with stand-up bass; Gary Reynolds on
guitar, trumpet, and piano; John Longwell on mandolin, tenor banjo, and
fiddle;
and Paul Epstein as lead fiddle.

Beginners and singles welcome; all ages; the caller will walk though and
teach
every dance.

Charlottesville International Folk Dancers meets Wednesday evenings
at the Senior Center, 1180 Pepsi Place, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

 Join people of all ages to learn and do lively, haunting, or gentle
folk-dances from many different countries.

Teaching is from 6:30 - 7:15 p.m.,
and recreational dancing is from 7:15 - 8:30 p.m.
