4. Saturday, Sept. 8 - Contra in Floyd
Dot-Dot-Dash, designated house band for the Floyd Contra Dance, arrives back
in Floyd
on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 8 p.m. accompanied by North Carolina caller Joy
Greenwolfe.
Blue Ridge Country Dancers sponsor the second Saturday of the month contra
dance
at the Sun Music Hall in downtown Floyd. Contra dancing is easy relaxed fun
for all ages,
and though the figures are done with a partner, singles are always welcome.
Dot-Dot-Dash is a multi-talented acoustic quartet playing Celtic, old-time,
Appalachian,
Gypsy Jazz and a whole lot more with signature tempos, "over-the-top"
acoustic energy,
and extraordinary instrumental improvisation. We dance up a storm whenever
they appear
on our stage. Band members are Joel Keebler, bass, Bill Anderson, fiddle,
John Hildreth, guitar,
and Matt Livingston, mandolin. The group regularly performs at regional
contra dances
and concert halls and recently released a self-titled debut CD album.
The dance starts at 8 PM with newcomer instruction at 7:30. Come as you are,
wear soft flexible shoes for dancing, and the caller will teach each dance.
Winter Sun, 302 South Locust St., downtown Floyd.
Come to dance or come to listen - no partner needed.
Admission is $7.00.
See us on the Crooked Road or on our website: www.floydcontradance.org.
