6. Saturday, Nov. 10 - Contra in Floyd
The monthly Floyd contra dance is Saturday, November 10 at the Sun Theater
in Floyd.
Skylark, the North Carolina musical duo of Marilyn Hartman and Paul Fackler,
pairs with Shawn Brenneman, caller, for Blue Ridge Country Dancers' second
Saturday contra dance.
Skylark plays a mix of mostly Northern ( New England, French Canadian,
Irish-American)
tunes with some Southern Appalachian tempos thrown in for good measure.
The Cape Breton repertoire is great listening as well as for dancing, and
forms the
backbone of a remarkably danceable beat. Paul and Marilyn also play some
fine
original compositions.
The dance starts at 8 PM with newcomer instruction at 7:35.
Come as you are, wear soft flexible shoes for dancing, and the caller will
teach each dance.
Winter Sun, 302 South Locust St. , downtown Floyd.
Come to dance or come to listen - no partner needed.
Admission is $7.00.
