3. Thanks for the Benefit Dance
The benefit dance held for Beau & Tim Carr on June 10, 2007 was
extremely successful and I want to thank all you dancers who came out
and supported this effort as well as the musicians (Troublesome Creek -
Rick Martin, Dick Harrington, Bill Wellington and Joe Fallon) and the
caller (Paul Rosen). We managed to raise $1,259.00 in this effort and
it much appreciated by Beau and Tim. The dance community came together
and helped one of their own and I am so glad we have this type of community.
Becky Cohen
Beau and Tim's personal thank you is below:
To the greater Charlottesville dance community, my brother & I would
like to extend our humble thanks for the assistance generated by the
recent Benefit Dance. When Becky Cohen first mentioned what she had in
mind I was literally speechless. Early on, as word about the fire
leaked out, offers for help began coming out of the woodwork. Bill
Feeney & Celeste Ploumis were among the first to contact me. Elizabeth
Margutti came up to me at a Friday night dance and mentioned that she
might need a pet sitter/ house sitter for a short span and that she had
a coworker who would need longer-term assistance of a similar nature.
Unfortunately, as I have a cat who doesn't get along well with other
cats, I was unable to take her up on those offers, but my brother was.
He is currently out at Lake Monticello house-sitting for Elizabeth's
friend who will be away for most of the summer. Elizabeth also
brainstormed with me about some people that might be willing to help me
with the move out from my old place once I got a storage facility.
Armed with names and numbers I was able to line up some extra muscle
when it came time to move out. If it were not for those people-- Rob
Craighurst, Will Sessoms, Tom Hinds & Paul Rosen-- and their very able,
Ninth Hour assistance, I might still be struggling to get the job done.
I also want to thank Gaye Fifer & Michelle Jividen for making their
basement available for me to store boxes in. There have been so many
ways that I have been blessed since the fire. But even when the fire
happened I was blessed. The damage from the fire was substantial, I
did not lose any property. The fire was bad enough that all four units
affected were deemed unsuitable as residences. But I had a houseful of
memories that might have been lost but for the combined efforts of the
Albemarle & Charlottesville Fire Departments. As grateful as I am for
that fact, I am even more thankful to have such good friends in the
Charlottesville dance communities. I want especially to thank all
those folks who worked so hard to make the benefit dance possible: Becky
Cohen, for getting the ball rolling and guiding it along its way; Phoebe
Williams, Teri Knapp and all the rest of the board members; Jim Morrison
for donating the sound system, and Rick Martin for doing sound;
Troublesome Creek for volunteering their, as usual, stellar music; and
Paul Rosen for his calling. And I save my biggest thanks for those I
cannot name: To all you Dancers (from the Valley, from Charlottesville,
from Richmond and beyond!), too numerous to mention by name, that came
out in such numbers and made what would surely have been a very good
dance anyways, into a Night To Be Remembered, from the bottom of my
heart, Thank You.
I am currently residing in Williamsburg VA. My girlfriend was kind
enough to invite me and my cat to move down here until I can get some
things sorted out. As an indirect result of the fire, I lost a job I
had just started because I had to take a couple of days off to deal with
the housing crisis. Without a job, it became impossible to find a new
apartment. I am still looking for work in Charlottesville, but I have
extended that search to Richmond and Williamsburg. The cost of living
in Charlottesville has gotten so high that it had become very difficult
to afford to live there. If the right job comes along, I hope to move
back. Regardless of where I get employed, I will always consider
Charlottesville to have been my first home. While I wasn't raised
there, I WAS born there and no matter how many times I go away, I always
seem to come back. I guess that's why they call it The Hook.
Sincerely,
Beau Carr
