The New 214 Community Arts Center (http://www.214arts.org/) presents:
Uncle Henry's Favorites
Special Fundraiser Concert
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va - Saturday, February 24, 2007 8:00pm Uncle Henry's
Favorites old-time string band, and opening for them the newly formed
Naked Creek. Tickets $25 at the door or at Plan 9, Greenberry's and
Sidetracks. The concert will be held at 214 Rugby Road,
Charlottesville. All proceeds go to 214 Community Arts Center, your
community music and dance space!
February 24 will be a homecoming concert for Uncle Henry's Favorites,
who have fiddled and sung their traditional old-time music together
since 1985. The band started playing together informally in the 1970's,
primarily at jam sessions at 214 and at local dances.
Pete Vigour (banjo, guitar, fiddle), Ellen Vigour (mandolin, dancer
caller), Jim Childress (fiddle, guitar), and Mark Beall (bass) have
developed their own distinctive blend of fiddle tunes, old country
songs, skits, and ballads. Uncle Henry's Favorites are active in the
Charlottesville Friends of Old-Time Music (C-FOOT) and the
Charlottesville Tune School (C-TUNES), new organizations at 214.
Opening the show will be the newly-formed band Naked Creek, with
versatile fiddler Aaron Olwell and a hot rhythm section of Marc Perdue,
banjo, Lorie Lichtenwalner, guitar, and Rachel Vigour, bass.
The 214 Community Arts Center is newly organized to operate a vibrant,
non-profit community arts center, particularly focusing on promoting
and supporting traditional music and dance and providing opportunities
for education, participation, performance, and community outreach.
This is your chance to celebrate and support community arts at 214!
Please come!
