5. Saturday, Oct. 28 - Contra in Damascus
Saturday, October 28th will be the final contra dance of 2006 at the Rock
School
on the corner of Shady Ave and Water Street. Family band favorite "Toss the
Possum"
will play for the dancers with Mom, Laura Zisette on keyboards, sons Robbie
and Chas
on fiddle and bass, and daughter Janse on flutes and whistles. Contra dance
music is
Celtic in origin but each band puts it's own stamp on it with style and
choice of instruments.
The old Rock School auditorium is praised for being the perfect place to
hold these dances,
both for the wonderful wooden dance floor and the ambience of the rock walls
and large windows.
To protect the wood floor, dancers are asked to wear soft-soled shoes.
Admission is $6 for adults with children twelve and under free. This
wonderful multigenerational
activity is great fun and the exercise is quite healthy. Die-hard
non-dancers are urged to come just
to enjoy the lively music that these talented musicians create.
For more information, please call (276)475-5140 or email
bunnymed at hotmail.com.
Come as you are, wear soft flexible shoes for dancing, and the caller will
teach each dance.
Come to dance or come to listen - no partner is required.
Admission: $6 (children twelve & under free)
