Attention Sophomores!
Please remember that Friday, September 21st is Founders’ Day
Convocation, and that your class members are key participants in both
the Convocation and the Memorial Ceremony that takes place at the Monument.
The left side of the auditorium has been reserved for you. Please plan
on arriving early so you can be in your seats by 2:50 p.m. Please wear
black/dark skirts or slacks and white shirts and comfortable shoes for
the procession to the Monument.
Please attend Founders’ Day Convocation and sit in seating reserved for
your class even if you are not escorting a member of the senior class to
Monument Hill – be a part of the tradition of honoring our Founders!!!!
Founders’ Day Convocation will take place at 3:00 p.m. with the
presentation of the Distinguished Alumna Award to Gay Hart Gaines, Class
of 1959, for her work in the fields of education and historic
preservation. Keynote speaker for Convocation will be Prudence Bushnell,
former Ambassador to Kenya and Guatemala and current CEO of Sage
Associates.
At the recessional, the faculty will be followed out by the seniors up
the right aisle. The Sophomores will be led out by Chaplain White and
your class president up the left aisle.
Following the Convocation, sophomores and seniors will be invited to
take a white daisy from an usher outside Babcock. A bagpiper will lead
the procession up to Monument Hill for the ceremony of the presentation
of the memorial flowers from the sophomores to the seniors at Daisy’s
grave. Following the ceremony, all students will be place flowers on
Daisy’s grave. In the event of rain, the Placing of Memorial Flowers
will take place in the Chapel.
We hope that the Class of 2010 will participate in this important and
meaningful occasion. See you at 2:50 p.m. in Babcock on Friday,
September 21!
