Attention Seniors!
Please remember that Friday, September 21, is Founders’ Day Convocation
at Sweet Briar, and also your first opportunity to wear your academic
robes. You may wear one sash on your left shoulder. No buttons, hood,
collar, or cap should be worn. Please line up at 2:45 p.m. in the former
Babcock Gallery and Art Wing. Your class president will lead you as you
process into the auditorium down the LEFT aisle and be seated in your
reserved seats in the center section. At the recessional, you will
recess up the RIGHT aisle and into the lobby.
Founders’ Day Convocation will take place at 3:00 p.m. with the
presentation of the Distinguished Alumna Award to Gay Hart Gaines, Class
of 1959, for her work in the fields of education and historic
preservation. Keynote speaker for Convocation will be Prudence Bushnell,
former Ambassador to Kenya and Guatemala and current CEO of Sage
Associates.
Following the convocation, a bagpiper will lead the procession up to
Monument Hill for the ceremony of the presentation of the memorial
flowers at Daisy’s grave. Seniors and sophomores will be invited to take
a white daisy from an usher outside Babcock, process to the Monument
together, and place the flower on Daisy’s grave as part of the ceremony
at the Monument. Juniors will be escorted to the Monument by their first
year little sisters and will place pink flowers on Daisy’s grave. Please
wear comfortable walking shoes. In the event of rain, the placing of the
memorial flowers will take place in the Memorial Chapel.
We hope that the Class of 2008 will participate in this important and
meaningful occasion. See you at 2:45 p.m. in Babcock on Friday,
September 21!
