2007 Baccalaureate Procession and Seating Instructions
2007 Baccalaureate Service, Friday, May 11, 3:00 pm

Dear Members of the class of 2007,
Thank you for participating in the Baccalaureate service on Friday, May
11. We will have a rehearsal for the service on Thursday, May 10, at
11:00am (meet at the iron gates by the brick commons). Please bring your
robe with you to rehearsal. Here are some details you will want to know
about the Baccalaureate service:
1. The Baccalaureate procession begins at The Deanery, the fourth house
on the left on Faculty Row. Lynn Buck has placed a pink and green banner
over the front porch, so look for the banner.
2. Please be at the Deanery no later than 2:20pm if you want to
participate in the procession. We will have refreshments. The procession
will begin at 2:45pm. Each senior should pick up a daisy and a service
bulletin to carry in the procession. We will process by twos up Faculty
Row, moving through the iron gates and up to the Chapel.
3. If you wish to sit with a friend, that person needs to line up
directly in front or behind you.
4. For those seniors who want to take part in Baccalaureate service but
not the outdoor procession, please gather on the porch outside of the
Chapel no later than 2:45pm.
5. Katie Whitmire, 2008 Class President, will serve as Student Marshal
for the procession. She will lead our procession into the Chapel during
the singing of the first hymn. Please sing the opening hymn like you
mean it! Please do not begin the procession before the hymn begins.
6. Seniors will be seated in the “transept” areas of the Chapel, that
is, the front pews facing each other on the left and right. Irene
Maslanik will lead the procession to seating on the left; Theresa
Jorgensen will lead the procession to seating on the right. When all
seats in the transept areas are filled, please take a seat in the
reserved chairs in the front.
7. Prior to taking your seat, please place your daisy in the basket in
the front. KatieWhitmire will have the basket.
8. Please remain standing through the singing of the processional hymn.
9. At the end of the service, seniors will recess during the singing of
the recessional hymn, beginning with the second verse. Irene and Theresa
will lead you out when our Student Marshal, Katie Whitmire, signals you.
As you depart President Muhlenfeld will hand you a rose. Please pause to
receive the rose from President Muhlenfeld.
10. In case of rain, we will line up in the lower level of the Chapel.
11. Dress for Baccalaureate service is your academic robe.
No hoods, caps, or other regalia are to be worn.
