Founders Day Convocation is Friday, September 23 in Murchison Lane
Auditorium, Babcock Fine Arts Center at 3p.m.
All classes will have reserved seating at Founders' Day this year and
all students will be invited to place flowers on Daisy's grave.
Seniors/sophomores will place white daisies and Juniors/first years will
place pink daisies.
Juniors ask their little sisters to sit with them in reserved seating on
the right hand side of the auditorium.
Please arrive early so you are in your seats by 2:50.
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
Memorial Service/Placing of Memorial Flowers will take place in the
Chapel in case of rain.
First years - this is a part of First Year Orientation!
The Distinguished Alumna Award will be presented to Jo Ann Soderquist
Kramer, Class of 1964. Jo Ann graduated from Sweet Briar cum laude with
a Bachelor of Science in Physics. As a graduate student, she was the
first woman to obtain a Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering from
the University of Virginia’s School of Engineering. Jo Ann is currently
Director of Naval Defense System programs for General Dynamics
Corporation in Burlington, Vermont. At Convocation she will deliver the
Founders’ Day address, “A Lady Engineer’s Perspective on Leadership.”
Following the convocation, bagpipers will lead the procession up to
Monument Hill for the ceremony of the presentation of the memorial
flowers from the sophomores to the seniors at Daisy’s grave. Juniors are
escorted to the Monument by their sister class, the first years. Seniors
are escorted to the Monument by their sister class, the sophomores.
Weather permitting, a picnic for the community will be held in the Quad
after the procession.( Student Commons in the event of rain)We hope that
the Classes of 2007 and 2009 will participate in this important and
important and meaningful occasion. See you at 2:50 p.m. in Babcock on
Friday, September 23!
