[CC] SSNs as IDs

PPRD was set up with a current ID of the form nnnnnnnnn where nnnnnnnnn is
the pidm (9 digits, left zero filled). At the last Banner Coordinating
Committee meeting there was some discussion of using a non-numeric ID as the
current ID.

At present, everyone has an ID of the form Pnnnnnnnn, where nnnnnnnn is the
pidm (8 digits, left zero filled). It has some merit in that it will never
be confused with a valid SSN. The main drawback is that it has been assumed
to be unique in some MS Access reports. We can get around that assumption
in MS Access reports by adding or substituting a constraint in the Access
queries that SPRIDEN_CHANGE_IND is null. If we can use Pnnnnnnnn in lieu of
nnnnnnnnn then we can eliminate one ID per person in SPRIDEN (roughly
350,000 IDs).

I suggest we set up PPRD to look like that.

Any thoughts?

Dave
